Like A Big Brother

Laurie Magee, the school’s Registrar and Assistant to the Head of School, was Bill’s right hand during his tenure. She wrote a letter expressing her appreciation of his time at Prep and her close working relationship with him.

You are a truly fortunate person should you be lucky enough to meet Bill Sinfield. When Prep was looking for a Head of School, the main characteristic I was looking for was warmth. We needed someone who had the ability to connect with all types of people in our community and one who could bring the heart and soul of Sandia Prep back to life. In my book, Bill was the perfect choice.

My colleagues have jokingly referred to Bill as my “work husband,” but I always correct them to say, “No. He is more like my work brother.” The truth is, working with Bill over the years has been like working with a family member. It’s easy to feel that way since he shares his personal world with us with stories about his sweet family and weekend excursions. [He’s also shared] mistakes he’s made along the way to make us smile and offers pearls of wisdom to help us see things in a different light. He helps keep us focused on what matters. Bill knows our families well. He celebrates our highs and is there for us in our lows. He is honest in his advice, even when it is something you may not want to hear. So for me, again, he is more like a big brother.

Bill is a truly gifted writer and speaker, and his stories are always so interesting. I never knew there were so many things to learn about Canada, hockey, and fishing until I started working with him. Now, when I hear someone from Canada speak on TV, it always makes me smile and think of him. Whenever Bill decides to write a book, rest assured, it will be a good one filled with funny stories and lessons on the human condition. I promise to read it—even if it’s about fly fishing.

Lastly, one of my favorite things about Bill is his colorful sense of humor. You can always count on a light-hearted comment or two from him to relax the room and bring some joy to any conversation. He is one of the funniest people on the planet.
